Our founders thoughts on BFCM
As you’ve no doubt seen in your inbox and social media timelines, small businesses are struggling. The current economic climate + ongoing supply chain issues have left many of our favorite small brands with uncertain futures. It pains us to say that despite your tremendous ongoing support, alder is staring down a similar fate. While we’ll speak more in depth to challenges and some hard decisions we’ve had to make (such as delaying product launches, cutting major marketing programs and future pop ups, etc.) at a later date, today, we wanted to take a moment to update you directly, our truly phenomenal community, about what to expect from us during the largest promotion of the year - Black Friday and Cyber Monday. What began as a single shopping event has quickly become a period dedicated to urgency and overconsumption; however, we understand that for many, Black Friday is a time where products of all varieties become much more accessible. For us (a small biz), participating in Black Friday is a necessary part of keeping the lights on and alder running. In honor of National Take a Hike Day on November 17th, our Take a Hike sale will run from the 17th to November 28th, over Black Friday and Cyber Monday. During this sale we will be offering 30% off the entire site. (If you are part of our Recreators Club, you will be given 24-hour early access to this event, so keep a close eye on your email!) While this decision continues to be a tough one, we’re excited to share our products at a more accessible price point for an extended window.
That said, we also completely understand if you would rather not participate in Black Friday sales. For small businesses like ours, support can come in many forms, and that can include things like liking and sharing our Instagram and TikTok posts, or telling your friends and family about alder. With the rising costs in marketing due to increased competition and seasonality, these small gestures can truly make all the difference. Thank you for your continued support and understanding, and we look forward to connecting with you all again soon!Naomi Blackman & Mikayla Wujec, co founders alder apparel We remain committed to standing behind our values, using ethical production practices, sustainable fabrics, cultivating our recreate market to take responsibility for the whole lifecycle of our products, and giving back to the outdoor community through the alder fund.
